Property Related Projects
Hervey Bay currently has in excess of $300 million of known
property projects in the pipeline or currently underway (excluding
residential and small commercial).
Sustainability
There is a strong push for ecological sustainability with
two major residential projects on the drawing boards totalling
some 1,000 homes focused on sustainable design. This will
be supported by a $10 million sustainable products manufacturing,
storage and regional distribution facility.
Transport
Hervey Bay City Council has recently completed an $11 million upgrade to
the Hervey Bay airport to allow jet services to fly directly
into Hervey Bay. Both Virgin Blue and Jetstar commenced flights from Sydney in July 2005 with direct flights from Melbourne in discussion.
Food/Tourist Precinct
Hervey Bay City Council is investing $400,000 together with
a $250,000 grant from the federal government to develop a
Visitor Information Centre
within the food processing themed tourist precinct at the
entrance to the City.
Aquaculture Precinct
Hervey Bay City Council has established a purpose zoned precinct
for Aquaculture business purposes and industry research. Commercial
activities at this site will include a fin fish growout facility
and future hatchery as well as a possible soft shell crab
growout facility. Initial investments in commercial aquaculture
activities within Hervey Bay are in excess of $5 million and
include a commercial marine bivalve hatchery, sea cucumber
and crab hatchery and soon to be established long-line pearl
oyster culture in the Bay. Hervey Bay is well known throughout Australia and overseas for the sumptuous Hervey Bay scallops.
Accessible Hervey Bay
The $1.2 million Urangan Precinct upgrade includes accessible
streetscaping and beach access, accessible amenities, park
improvements and beautification with the historic Urangan
Pier the focal point of an access friendly park for families.
$1.8 million is being invested to extend the Link Mobility
Corridor from Old Maryborough Road to Boat Harbour Drive (including
upgrading of Main Street). The extension includes landscaping,
water re-use irrigation and fibre optic cable. These projects
are partly funded by the State Government through the Regional
Centres Program.
Waste Projects
The new Fraser Coast Recycling Centre is a $3.5 million dollar
state of the art waste management facility. The Recycling
Centre specialises in minimising waste to landfill and maximising
value added recyclable products such as top standard mulch,
crushed concrete for road base and recycled aluminium, steel,
